Code of Conduct - developed by the members of this lab This code of conduct is designed to outline the shared lab values of collaboration, mutual respect, and inclusivity. A team learning environment. Everyone in the lab is a valued member of the team. All questions and ideas are welcomed and appreciated. Exclusionary language will not be tolerated. We strive to create a culture where help is asked for and offered, without fear of ridicule, judgement, or repercussion. Maintain a professional work environment. Professional conduct is expected during work hours. All team members are expected to participate in research during work hours, be punctual and prepared, meeting deadlines and taking care of shared lab equipment. Together we make the lab environment a safe and enjoyable place to be. Develop a respectful and fun work environment. We work to build a collaborative and interactive lab that helps to solve each other’s problems. We try to foster interpersonal relationships through lab meetings and group activities, while respecting personal boundaries (both physical and emotional). We do not gossip about others, we accept responsibility for our mistakes and apologize where transgressions occur. Fostering an inclusive environment. We believe diverse backgrounds and experiences foster great ideas. Discriminatory remarks or attitudes towards gender or gender identity, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, nationality, age, dis/ability, neuro(a)typicality, or economic status etc. are not tolerated. Be mindful of self-identifying remarks (i.e., personal pronouns) and be respectful about identity and be polite if inquiring. If you see something inappropriate happening, a gentle reminder about the Code of Conduct is a productive response. If you are comfortable, discuss inappropriate behaviour enacted against yourself or another lab member privately with the relevant person. Avoid making accusations in front of other lab members or in shared email chains. If you believe a situation requires assisted intervention please approach and disclose to a person you are comfortable talking with, or with the lab PI, and/or refer to the Lab Welcome Package for details.
